couple of things (ok more than a couple)
I'm just not getting it hehe, 1. they used t have the "Blueprint is a copy = Yes/No" and the number of runs on there I guess thats why it only shows number of runs now? lag?
2. ok so eve is a realtime enviroment? granted we dont have "load screens" but instead what we do have is small (and sometimes huge) lag spikes whever we do anything in eve, I.E. open items/ships/market ect. jumping through stargates, comeing out of warp (mostly you only see i on big fleet battles, but its still there it just never drops below 32 frams, therefore you cannot notice)
now im not trying to take sides here, i see both points, however, if simply adding a color would be catastrophic then howcome they came out with rigs (im glad they did btw) and on top of that then why are they ading med and small rigs in aug!? wouln't that just kill the whole damned server? i mean your talking about the differance between creating 2 items from 1 (BPO and BPC) and adding (not editing, adding) over 50 items to the DB for over (on average, what? 10,000 DB calls/minute, maybe more?).
and on the same note, (flame me now but....) by using the example above on realtime, if you have to "micro-load" somthing everytime you open it, or fly somewhere, it's not really realtime is it? it may apear to be sometimes, but im pretty sure that by doing the "micro loads" ALL THE TIME on EVERYTHING, when you think about it, it is no diferent than every other game out there, think about it, instead of having 1 load screen when you log in (that takes about 30 mins lol) and have that system run 100% smooth, and then another for each station/system (about 30 seconds to 1 minute) they use micro loading (what i call it) you enter a station and it goes black for a littlebit, you come out of warp into a blog andit just freezes, you enter a new system and it jumps a little bit....ect.ect..
3. and the most important, to those of you saying the re-structureing the DB is not cost effective think about this...right now about 1/4 of people that try eve online stay for more than 2 months, lets say only 1/4 of those people leave do to the learning curve, and 1/4 leave do to the UI, and 1/4 leave do to loosing items/ships and 1/4 leave do to the skill training taking real time, now the loss of items/ships is never going to change, niether is the skill training, so that leaves you with 1/2 that leave you can actually do somthing about, now take a look at the number of trials eve gets every month, now subtract about 1/3 to people that and just trial games and never have an interest, and to alts.
ok so this is what we have so far (ok i cant find the actual numbers) lets guess roughly per month.....
50 trials created per month 25 are left that we can help now thats an extra 300 people per year or $4500 per year
now thats at only at 50 people trying eve every month,
if they re-structure the DB it shoudl improve (if they wish to do so) the learning curve and (if they so choose) the UI as well, along with other possibilities
what im trying to say is that instead of coming out with SOOO much content so damned fast, (i mean T2 rigs are still 300-500m isk, not to mention the price of T3 atm) why dont they split that team in half and instead of coming out with all this new shiny **** hat just eats more away at preformance, half of them make new **** and the other half work and the DB, then in what did yo guys say 1 year? so lets even say 2 years, bam we have a much better game that more people will enjoy.
go ahead tell me i dont know what im talking about, this is just my opinion, im not claiming to kno how to do everything or how everythingworks, but after readying this wole thread this is what i came up with.....so shoot me
